William G. Lajoie
Littleton, Colorado, Certified Public Accountant, Appointed 2006 to a four-year term.
He likely never met the man, but Caring for Colorado Board Member William G. Lajoie embraces the philosophy of Urie Bronfenbrenner, who worked his entire professional career on behalf of children. Co-founder of the national Head Start program, Bronfenbrenner once said, "No society can long sustain itself unless its members have learned the sensitivities, motivations and skills involved in assisting and caring for other human beings."
Lajoie also feels the same way, especially when it comes to kids. At least a couple times a week, this Littleton, Colorado CPA can be found volunteering at Children's Hospital. "I love kids. It's one thing I can do, and it's a passion, especially helping under privileged kids," he says. Helping children with health care, says Lajoie, is of the utmost importance, and he feels the critical areas of dental care and mental health need attention in this state.
Lajoie heads his own CPA firm including auditing and attestation, tax planning and return preparation. He also has experience in alternative dispute resolution, mediation, fraud examination, and peer reviews of other CPA firms. Lajoie also is an instructor for the AICPA and speaks at conferences on accounting and auditing. Prior to running his own firm, he worked at Lehman, Butterwick and Company, the George Anderman Companies and Peat, Marwick & Co. (now KPMG).
In addition to his extensive CPA capabilites, Lajoie says he has a wish to leave a personal legacy, and that is to be able to point to some specific accomplishment that improved people's lives, "to be able to look to various communities in Colorado (where, for example, health clinics have been built) and say, ‘I had some small part in making that happen,' " says Lajoie.
Lajoie graduated Magna Cu Laude with a BBA from the University of Notre Dame. He has held leadership positions in a variety of professional accounting organizations, is a Commissioner with the Littleton Riverfront Authority and is on the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Association of the Children's Hospital.
