Caring for Colorado Foundation, BurstMarketing Launch "Green" Online Report; Health Care Stories and Environmental Savings Highlighted in Dynamic
Web-Based Publication

Unique Health Care Portal with 150 Links, Videos, Podcasts, Survey and Web 2.0 Tools; This Is Not Your Average Annual Report

(DENVER 4/16/09) - Health grantmaker, Caring for Colorado, and Denver social media company BurstMarketing, have collaborated to create a media-rich, eco-efficient, internet-based look at the Foundation's first $50 million of grantmaking to improve health care in Colorado. The "green" online annual report illustrates the grantmaking impact through the words and images of the Foundation's grantees, using video, audio podcasts, slideshows, photography, hyperlinks and text.

BurstMarketing's Rob Simon says, "It's rare to find a win-win, but this is one of them. This dynamic digital presentation saves natural resources, reaches more people for less per-person cost; can be added to or revised; can be accessed from nearly all platforms; has a viral, social networking component; and engages readers in a whole new way."  The green online annual report also has comprehensive tracking capabilities and can be saved to the desktop or printed on-demand.

"We've taken this online step toward eco-efficiency to reach a larger audience by relying on electronic distribution while also providing viewers with an overview of our recent health care grantmaking, videos, podcasting, one-click access to our grantees and savings in paper, energy and waste," said Caring for Colorado President and CEO Chris Wiant.

The report features the Foundation's 2008 grant year and its grantmaking priorities since inception. It also features grantees such as Inner City Health Center in Denver and the community of nursing students at Otero Junior College in La Junta.  "These grantees are among the many who illustrate the ways that Caring for Colorado is working to increase access and build capacity in Colorado's health care system," Wiant said.

"As a foundation, this kind of digital publication also helps facilitate communication with the community at large. We want the community to know how these dollars are being spent, and the care we take to ensure that each dollar is improving health care for the underserved and uninsured in our state."

By not printing and distributing a traditional annual report, the environmental savings are estimated to be approximately three tons of wood for paper stock; 36 million BTUs of energy consumption; 5,483 CO2-equivalent pounds of greenhouse gases; and 16,980 gallons of wastewater.  Environmental impact estimates were made using the Environmental Defense Fund Paper Calculator.  For more information visit http://www.edf.org/papercalculator.

The Caring for Colorado Foundation is a non-profit 501c (4) corporation created in 1999 from the proceeds of the sale of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Colorado to Anthem Insurance Co.

BurstMarketing is a Denver-based social media firm providing start-to-finish podcasting, online and social media solutions for businesses and non-profits across the United States. The company uses Nxtbook MediaTM for its green online platform.
