Public Health Summit

More than 300 people in public health positions from nearly every county in the state met December 1-2, 2008 in Golden to gather information and offer input on the implementation of Senate Bill 194, legislation requiring state and local health agencies to develop public health improvement plans by the end of next year. Participants at the conference worked in nine groups to review basic health services needed for all Coloradans. The legislation states that each person in Colorado should have access to the same, high-quality, core public health services. Information generated by the groups will be shared with the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to inform its recommendations to the State Board of Health, which in turn will make final decisions about core health services for local public health agencies. Many participants remarked that the Summit resulted in the most productive conversations between state and local health organizations that they could recall. Podcasts and PowerPoints of the main sessions from the Summit can be found below.
