Tracking H1N1
Public health officials are monitoring the H1N1 virus closely as the regular flu season in the U.S. approaches. While most people who contract the disease suffer unpleasant but not life-threatening symptoms, H1N1 has hit younger people harder. Those with compromised immune systems seem to be at higher risk for complications. Additionally, in a study published in the Lancet, CDC scientists found pregnant women were more than four times as likely to be hospitalized with the new flu than the general population.
