Special Initiatives

In addition to Caring for Colorado’s responsive grantmaking, the foundation also funds special, long-term initiatives that are designed to address specific health issues with well-defined health outcomes as the goal.  Some of these initiatives are unique to Caring for Colorado while others are funded in partnership with state and national funders.  A description of current Caring for Colorado special initiatives follow:

Oral Health Improvement Project

In 2002, Caring for Colorado embarked upon a 10-year, $10 million effort to: strengthen Colorado’s oral health safety net; promote oral disease prevention projects for children; and improve health policies so that people can gain access to oral health care.

Advancing Colorado’s Behavioral Health Care

In 2003, the Mental Health Funders Collaborative commissioned TriWest Group to conduct an assessment and critical analysis of the public and private mental health systems in Colorado.
